"We are the Champions"

The next video brought back a lot of
memories….
Bringing home the #2 trophy in the
era we grew up in. We really did feel like “The Champions”.
This video required some road trips. Jay and I went on the first road trip to gather information for this presentation. Traveling near and far. Thankfully he goes along with “some” of the crazy ideas I have.

We even talked Karen Mondry’s husband
Mike Farder to hang with us on the second road trip!
I knew I was going to be in trouble
with 2 men in the car as when we neared Voss I asked Mike to hand me a road map and he hands me a MN map!!! He
told me I didn’t ask for a particular state!
As Jay was tipping sideways in the
ditch taking a picture for this video, Mike said “what if he falls?” I said, “don’t
know about you; but I’m running!” We did find out there no longer is any Munich sausage, much to my surprise the 2
brave men I was with dared ask the bartender, she gave us quite the update on the historic Munich sausage.
There were several noticeable changes
since the 70’s when we were last in this countryside as teens.
The main streets in the small
communities had dwindled down to nothing.
The schools that seemed so large now
seemed to have shrunk or they had closed.
Churches sat idle; there are not enough
parishioners to keep them open.
The countryside was wide open; the
many shelter belts were gone.
Farmsteads were abandoned or had
disappeared over the years.
Many of the towns no longer had a
railroad going through their town. The
tracks were absent. or had sat idle for many years and were now overgrown with
weeds.
The grain elevators appearance in the small towns has changed. With fires and the shear age of the tall stately wood sided grain elevators, they are being replaced with concrete and steel elevators that resemble an oversized grain bin that we knew in the 70’s.
The ol’ watering hole, the bar was still the hub of the community!
As adults we now appreciate more than we did in our free spirited teen years
And, sadly, Jay and I have aged. These road trips we took were day trips. In our teen years this surely would have been an all-night adventure!
